This class is an integration of literature and writing. Students will read 4 books throughout the year, then discuss and analyze each of these works. The writing portion teaches students to write descriptive, informative, and narrative compositions. Students will use their observations and experiences to write strong, well-developed paragraphs that include complex sentences of varying lengths. Working independently, students are given clear objectives and tools that will help improve brainstorming, writing, and self-editing skills. Students must have gone through IEW C or a comparable writing program. They must be able to write a paragraph and have experience with the 5 paragraph essay. Your student will receive continual feedback and the teacher/mentor will grade all writing assignments.
