Grades 4-12 One semester 50 minutes, once a week Give your kids the tools to create, not just consume, the media that fills their world. In this hands-on, project-based class, students become illustrators, animators, and storytellers as they bring their own ideas to life across three creative units. Theyll design original characters and turn them into illustrated comics and digital stories. Theyll plan, build, shoot, and edit their very own LEGO stop-motion films from storyboard to a real class film festival. And theyll find their voice behind the mic, writing scripts, conducting interviews, and producing original podcast episodes. Every lesson runs on three tiers: Explorer (4-6), Creator (7-9), and Producer (10-12), so younger and older students work side by side, each appropriately challenged, with the older kids naturally mentoring the younger ones. No ones lost, no ones bored. What to bring: Students should bring a device if they can- a tablet is the most versatile and covers all three units. A laptop works great for the illustration and podcasting units, and a smartphone can do everything in a pinch (its the camera for our LEGO films!). Dont have a device? We can work out shared equipment with notice, and the animation unit is done in pairs. Students leave with a portfolio of work theyre genuinely proud of: a comic, a film, a podcast, and a whole lot of new confidence.
