This course will take a slow, systemic approach to writing, helping the students learn how to write well. There will be assignments that need to be accomplished at home. We will introduce the topics, talk about them, and complete some of the worksheets, in class. They will be expected to complete the remaining at home and as the year progresses, full writing assignments, based on their abilities. At the end, your student should be able to identify and apply different parts of speech. We will cover subjects, predicates, nouns, pronouns, antecedents, adjectives, verbs, adverbs, prepositional phrases, independent clauses, dependent clauses, forming complete sentences, paragraphs, figurative language, brainstorming and writing a final essay. Our goal is to create thinkers who can effectively communicate their thoughts verbally and in writing.
